Posted: 01 Nov 2009 10:52 Post subject: Difference Version 2.0.3 / 2.0.5 |
|
|
Hi everybody,
I tried to find out the different versions and searched several topics here but did not find the answer to above questions - maybe I am blind...?
I hope someone can give me a hint or the answer
Versions:
AC32 – Version 2.0.0 (DVD) oder
AC32 – Version 2.0.1(Download)
VSK5 – Version 2.0.3
VSK5Online – Version 2.0.4
AC32 + AC32_Patch1 -> Version 2.0.2
respectively
VSK5 + VSK5_Patch1 -> Version 2.0.5
Compatible/Racing:
2.0.2
2.0.3
2.0.4
2.0.5
Question:
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 2.0.3 and 2.0.5 ?

Hi Liese
2.0.3 was the original VSK5 game
2.0.5 is VSK5 after the patch has been applied. This is the version that is used.
Have a look here http://www.northspace.co.uk/ _________________ Sandy

Ok, but what is the difference or is there any change - log.
Both versions are compatible for online play, is it?
If they are compatible the boat parameters etc should be the same. But if the boat parameters have not been changed..what HAS changed?
Thx for your effort.

I believe this is the change log you are looking for but you wont find many significant changes...............
http://files.ac32.virtualskipper.com/ChangeLog.txt |
I'm not sure that this log is actually the record of the patch for VSK5 2.0.3. It seems to end with the AC32 patch. I also cannot remember what the patch for VSK5 was designed to do. I'm also now wondering if the unpatched VSK5 can play online with the patched ones.
Maybe someone can remember what the patch for 2.0.3 did? And if it was necessary to play online with the versions that have the 2.0.5 patch, _________________ Sandy

That was my understanding.
I run 2.0.4 which is the free download version (using my paid-for login). |

As far as I know, I have been able to see 'our' VSKFun.com Servers with both Versions.
The AC32 Patch is published here:
http://www.virtualskipper-lejeu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4307
The VSK5 Patch is published here:
http://www.virtualskipper-lejeu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4308
Both published on the same day 21.Nov 2008.
Change Log of AC32 Patch says:
| Quote: | | * Simulation : improved physics for the ACC |
No ChangeLog for VSK5 Patch.....
Since I can race with both VSK5 versions I am now afraid if we have really same physics for online racing between all competitors....
Maybe someone can get contact to NADEO programmers ?

AFAIK all boat models are checked against the host's boat model such that bit for bit the boats are the same.
Difference in behavior only occurs based on user settings
like
- screen resolution
- texture quality
- stems off/on
as well as the players hardware and network capability.
Versions differ afaik as follows:
VSK5 DVD version allows off-line play (without internet)
VSK5 Full downloaded versions allow only play with an available internet
Upgrade raises AC-32nd to VSK5 Download compatibillity leaving the original grafics in the UI etc. alone
If incompatible you either can't see the lobby/races, or you can't enter the races. Just like when boats are incompatible..
The reason is obvious as players could use a personal boat with "slightly better" parameters, the bitwise comparison prohibits that beyond any doubt. |

Yes Theo but I still dont remember the reason for this patch of the retail version of VSK5.
There is a post here: http://www.virtualskipper-lejeu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4308 which says ....
| FocusTechSupport wrote: | Virtual Skipper 5 2.0.5 patch for 2.0.3 RETAIL version:
1. Click http://support.focus-home.fr/Vsk5_Patch1_Setup.zip
2. Open Vsk5_Patch1_Setup.zip file.
3. Run Vsk5_Patch1_Setup.exe application file.
4. Follow the instructions.
This update is also available by clicking Update button from the game launcher.
There is no update for VSK5 Online, the free version of the game.

1. AFAIK there is no physical difference except for how licenses are handled.
2. there is no feasable technological or even theoretical way in which different Versions of a boat model with different behaviour can be used in one and the same race.
What 2.0.3 -> 2.0.5 exactly did I do not know, except that i think it came togehter with the free-online version, so afaik some license/permission related stuff. (see the old acc32 races--?)
http://www.virtualskipper-lejeu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4318
Which i think isn't the issue here
| Quote: | | Since I can race with both VSK5 versions I am now afraid if we have really same physics for on-line racing between all competitors.... |
I think there are some concerns bout the ACC model or any other boat or game version fro that matter being exactly the same, and behaving the same, or having other physical differences.
Physical difference can only stem from user settings, hardware, network, etc. not the game engine, or different (modified) data files.
That's what all the MD5 checksums are for, comparing users files bit for bit every time you join a race, map, boatmodel even the default skins are checked...........if you want to go faster in VSK, get a better network, hardware, drivers etc. some even tune the internal clock of their computer
BUT AFAIK there is no way known to man that differences in data files are not discovered by the game engine (Just see how hard it is to change the default skins sails into transparent sails.. , you can't manipulate a boat model not even community made boat models or even use a non compatible versions of the game. |

I'm not sure, maybe the difference can be that 2.0.3 is normal with starforce protection, and 2.0.5 is possible race without dvd on player (no starforce protection). _________________ aloha

So I can record, that noby knows what exactly is the difference?
@Admiral: You had contact to someone of the programmers unit? Or where is it written that boat types and parameters etc. are compared bit by bit?
I had to intsall my VSK5 game (Vers. 2.0.3) yesterday.
I started without an update and could see all the players/servers I used to see. It is offering an update automatically, but I dismissed.
A small difference seems to be, that in Version 2.0.3 (VSK5 unpatched) I cannot define the key 'D' i.e. as 'Rudder in Neutral Position'
Message 'The key D is reserved (or something similar)'

PS: Still curious about this patch, maybe a programmer will get aware of this thread |
