I am trying to make the old Stars & Stripes skin from VSK2 work in 5 - the graphics look the same as does the hull shape, etc. I loaded it in the skins folder, but it doesnt' work. I also opened the .dds files in Gimp and don't see much difference except that they're all flattened already.

Any ideas?

TIA
Peter

First of all, my version of vsk2 did not have seprate skins. All the .dds files are in one folder. I do not have a stars&stripes in the folder. I don't have any custom skins

Second, the .dds file names do not go with any of the vsk5 boats. So there is not a boat in vsk5 that thay would work.

What boat is your Stars&Stripes for. I am a skinner and should be able to take the skin files and adapt them to a vsk5 boat. If you would like me to do this send the skin and what boat you want them on to duane_reynolds47@msn.com. and I'll see waht I can do.

There were custom skins in vsk2 and there is a picture of Camster in vsk2 on this page. http://www.northspace.co.uk/history.html

I think there were no mipmaps in the dds files in vsk2 and without these, vsk5 just rejects the file. But there is no point in creating these because the mapping of the dds files to the 3-d hull model was different, so you wont be able to use the vsk2 files in vsk5.

Take up Duaner's offer - he makes great skins!

Hi Duane,

I did some Googling and found Stars&Stripes, USA66. I will email what I found -

When I opened the .dds files in Gimp, it did ask if I wanted to load the mipmaps, so they're there I guess.....

Regards

Oh - forgot to mention it would be for an ACC. Maybe someday there will be a 12!!

Camster - What is the puff&lull file? I can't figure how sometimes I get passed to leeward - is he scalloping?

The puff & lull file in the game creates the visual darkening & lightening on the water that you can see when the wind is stronger or weaker. The file itself is just for graphics & has no effect on the speed of the boat. If you alter this file, you can change this visual appearance. Save a backup of the original before you try ...

is it a skin for a boat already installed in the game? (ACC, Melges, etc.) or a third party boat? If second case, maybe you have not installed the boat model in the boats folder (documents/vsk5/boats) ... there should me a .zip file of the boat model (not the skin zip file, skin files are on another folder)

the boat model .zip file if you open the zip should have the files: boat, boat param, info, solid, vehicle

The above explanation is my best shot! If anyone has experience of other software or if some of it isn't clear, please post here & I can easily edit the explanation as & when.
