Why am I seeing the Intel logo on everyones mainsail and spinnaker for the first race or 2?

It's not just me, either, as everyone in my game the other night was noticing this. Is this someones hack, or did Nadeo do this on purpose?

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I have never seen this myself, but I guess it must be the built in advertising which the VSK4 project manager announced during the beta tests:

Quote:
To the community

I don't know if you are aware of it, but an advertisement system is included in VirtualSkipper like it is on TrackMania.
We have worked this system to be able for us for alternative way of "sponsoring" of community and to make VirtualSkipper series more profitable.

We hope that one day, the players that organise, create or play on a long period of time can be rewarded through this system. It is at an early stage and I don't expect big campaigns or rewards, but it is maybe the futur of online virtual sailing.

I know that everyone read the License agreement carefully and didn't just click the "Accept" button, so you guys probably just forgot this part. Tr?s content

This game incorporates technology of Massive Incorporated ("Massive") that enables certain in-game objects (eg advertising) to be temporarily uploaded to your pc and replaced in-game while connected online. As part of that process, no personally identifiable information about you is collected and only select non-personally identifiable information is temporarily logged. No logged information is used to determine any personally identifiable information about you. For full details see http://www.massiveincorporated.com/privacy.htm.

I thought I had seen an option to disable the advertising, but maybe that was just in the beta.

Liar. Sourire

Seriously, I'll take a screenie next time I see it. EVERYONE in my game was griping about it.

Im seeing this for the first time tonight and was initally very upset that my game had been hacked. I under stand the desire for sponsorship so Ill let it slide.
I would hope that it will not be a perminent part of my skin that I worked so hard on. It seems a bit like grafitti you ask me.

I would complain (I don't like much advertsing) but so far, we use advertisement to sell virtualskipper and we get revenues for putting ads in it.

it is a good opportunity to keep long life time title instead of trying to sell games that last for 10 hours. Hope this will affect the console market since they try to sell a maximum number of units instead of a maximum hours of fun.

the best case scenario is that it generates enough for everyplayer to get additionnal services when he is a long period player. I don't know. We really need to test this.

Some people see this as more realistic. Have you noticed that many boats have sponsor on the sails. Maybe one day, the best players in VirtualSkipper will be able to pick sponsor and get rewards with this. For the moment, we just need to increase the revenue of VirtualSkipper and to make the fact that it is a niche product to an advantage!

hi,

i agree with ads, but we work hard on our skins and it's sad to see advertisement on our sail.
I think it would be more realistic to have ads on comitee boat or on marks

maybe they can organise events with ads on sails and we know when we registre.

It seems that restarting VSK causes the add overlay to disapear. I tend to feel this is a good thing in the long run. It helps NADEO and is not permenent grafitti. This thing does seem to be the trend in advertising these days. One reason I play games is I couldnt stand to sit and watch TV because 25 minutes of every hour was spent watching adds. This method may seen intrusive at first but it at least doesn't interupt the game play.
It was strange how I seemed to be the only one to see the adds. Its as if only my machine was targeted. It does make me concerned about someone using the feature as an exploit and possably doing harm or just plastering whatever they want on to my skins (allbeit temporary).

It's not just the sails, guys. It's also splashed all down the sides of the hull (at least on the ACC boat). I grabbed a screenie last night, and I will get it posted when I get home from work.

Now that I know it's not a hack, I am not concerned about this. In fact, If Nadeo would give us some spaces that were guaranteed to be sponsorship free, we could create skins that won't be affected by the addition of sponsorship graphics. This would be consistent with many class rules in real sailing, where sponsorship is limited to the front 75% of the hull, and the lower 15% of the main, or something similar.

If sponsorship revenue will somehow convince Nadeo to fix/add leebow effects to the other (non ACC) boats in the next patch, then more power to it.

Here is a screenshot of our "sponsored" boats.

Like I said, if this gets us leebow effects on NON ACC boats, I will be extremely happy. Sourire
