We have been suffering through a lot of server outages in the last couple of weeks. The vsk server is offline again tonight.

I would like to see a load balanced server solution where there is a vsk server on at least two continents with race result replication so the ladder is correct.

This is not difficult to do and will remove the problem of a centralised server failing all the time.

regards, uanmi

Since a fair amount of races are NPC, it would be great to have that as part of the configuration of the server. The host selects NPC and the cancellation options are not operable during that session. It would solve the frustration of the host having to tell people over and over again or even kicking/banning a player for asking, even if in error.

This has probably been asked for before but if not I think it would be a good option.

I have split the discussion regarding an NPC option into a separate thread. Everyone's wishes for the game will be different and if every "wish" was discussed it quickly distracts from the "list" part of "wish- list". Please move any discussion to a separate thread.

Thanks.

That wasn't trolling, moderator. It was a legitimate reaction to a petty skipper with a very big mouth.

The game of vsk required most skills in vsk3. In vsk4 it was slightly deskilled and in vsk5 huge deskilling took place. Sadly, the use of AHK to produce the perfect tack/gybe removes one more skill that previously separated the men from the boys.

The lower skill trend of vsk is unfortunate. With the race performance margin being so small now, there is a corresponding increase in frustration, too many boats arriving at the mark at the same time, and so on. I liked that the races in vsk3 were less decided until the finish line, since it was possible to gain or lose more ground. Vsk3 normal mode with the current boat physics would make a good combination.

Thinking about this some more ...and a I agree with the de-skilling statement, It would be an idea to have the wave & wind strength impact on the boats course. with VSK5 its as if the boat is on autohelm which is not really realistic.

A point on the skill factor ... the fast boats in VSK3 thorough to VSK5 are still the fast boats.....

Hi all,

I think that Sail Simulator 5 can be much better game then VSK in near future. I hope to see the VSK6 in one year time.

Boom Wakes

The way wakes work, as I understand it, is that they are anchored to a fixed point that is defined in relation to the centre point of the model... when that anchor point hits the surface, a wake results.

I'd like to be able to get wakes to spray up when the boom drags in the water on a reach/run... this would necessitate wake anchor points being able to be defined not in relation to the model centre point, but as any part of the surface of any mesh. It doesn't work as it is currently set up because the boom pivots, and so the anchor point cannot be defined in relation to the model centre point because it moves along the arc that the boom swings on.

Linked to Boom Wakes.

The Boom being part of the boat .. so when sailing close to the mark / committee boat or another boat ... a pen is given with contact.

I would imagine that the code required for boom wakes would quite similar to boom wake (contact point detection).

Wish wish wish ...

ISAF window/Player list focus to lock on your name

At the moment there are scroll arrows on the ISAF window player list that allow you to scroll from the front page (positions 1 to 8 ) to the second page (positions 9 - 16) and so on. It bugs me when you are 7th or 8th, or 9th or 10th (just as one example) how you can't easily see the rules applying between you and the two boats in front or behind you without scrolling to the other page and back...

I would like the ISAF window to have 9 boats listed, and for you to be able to choose between the current mode or "Focus loccked on my boat" mode where your name would stay in the "5th" slot, so you could see the 4 boats in front of you and the 4 boats behind you, until you got above 5th, or below 5th to last, when it would auto scroll... when you were in 3rd it would show the two boats in front of you and the 6 boats behind you, when you were in first it would show the 8 boats behind you... and when you were last it would show the 8 boats in front of you...

Hi Bardy - long time no chat.

A slight variation on the above idea is described in bullet #16 at http://www.virtualskipper-lejeu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24619#24619

The key difference is the added flexibility for a skipper to decide (using the down/up arrow keys) the number of boat names ahead of and behind their own boat name so as to produce the preferred "situation awareness" in the current circumstance.

Cheers!

A Puff of Smoke...

I'd like there to be a visual signal on the committee boat when at least the start gun fires, and possibly when the finish gun and warning signals fire.

For the start sequence this could be flags going up and down etc. or it could just be a puff of smoke from the gun of one of the guys on the race committee boat.

The reason is that when you make a video of a replay, or screenshots from a replay you don't have any idication of when the start gun goes off...[/b]

More races after this icon

I'd like to see a check box for the host to indicate more races after this or not.

The host, and only the host, should have a check box [ Yes/No ] on the [ESC] screen. When set to yes there should be an icon that appears on all competitors' and spectators' screens that is the "there will be more races after this one" icon.

When 'No' was selected by the host the icon could either not show, or (and I prefer this) show a "No more races after this one" icon. When the host had not selected yes or no, no icon would show... (this could be the default, and show the host was not sure yet, perhaps).

This would save people who join a server during a race asking "will there be another race after this one Host?" and more importantly would save the host from having to interrupt their race and type "yes" over and over and over again as each person joins and asks the same question that has already been repeatedly answered.

Perhaps that could be on the inbound window to the server so that the player does not even have to join to ask and can try a different server
