Posted: 08 Feb 2010 3:14 Post subject: How to create AI opponents in Custom Solo Fleet Race? |
|
|
I have VSK3. I have successfully created a Solo Fleet Challenge in the Site editor. I followed the User's Guide in adding opponents. When playing the Challenge, they are visible but they just sit there. Do I have to create a "trajectory" by sailing the entire course with each competitor, or am I missing something? I have checked "Apply Rules".
Help! |

Hi,
I can only talk from the stand-point of vsk5 but I believe that you have to sail the course complete for the boats to gain their "intelligence". _________________ Cheers,

VSK3 is a while in the past & over my memory event horizon (easy to do!)
I remember that you play the race in solo mode/custom race just like VSK5 but I think you create the race as a multiplayer race - not a solo race. Could you check that out djwf?
You dont have to sail the course to train the AIs to race you. Whether they get more intelligent with practice is not something I have heard before - but in any event they should compete against you from the 1st play. _________________ Sandy

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried setting up the race as a Multi race with a few opponents, but when I try to save it, I am told that I need at least 8 "spawn points". Can't find any reference to "spawn points" in the user guide.
Is what I am trying to do possible in VSK5? |

If I recall correctly (and it has been a long time since I used VSK3), it is not possible to race against the AI in VSK3. I seem to have this recollection of really pissing off Nadeo with my bitching about this However, it is entirely possible with AC32 or VSK5.
You can try the free version of VSK5 to see how it runs on your system, but if you choose to buy VSK get the "Full version", that is, do not upgrade the demo. There seems to be a problem with AI races with the upgraded demo so go to the Shop and download the full game. Even better, try to find a version of AC32, which can be upgraded to be compatible with VSK5, and that will give you the ability to compete in the 32nd America's cup and also give you all the ACC skins for all the boats, which are not included with VSK5 (licensing issues). _________________ In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is. |

I am pretty sure you can race the AI boats in VSK3
The spawn points refer to the number of boats you place positions for at the start line. The boats are said to 'spawn' there when you start the race.
So you need to put at least 8 boat positions to make the race work. _________________ Sandy

I don't know about VSK3 but I spent ages trying to set up a fleet race with IA opponents in VSK5.
If you place the opponents in the editor and sail them around the course they will do exactly that when you play the game, no AI just dumbly doing what you told them to.
What you need to do is enable the AI in the editor. To do this Launch vsk5 and click [play].
When the 1st menu screen appears, hold the right mouse button down. Then type ‘friends’ while continuing to hold the right mouse button down.
Now open the editor and you will have two new fields under parameters "AI Opponents" and "AI level". You can now put up to 8 AI opponents in to the game. But don't forget to also put at least 8 spawn points near the start line for them.
You can find more detail here.

Hope this helps, it worked fine for me. Why it is not in the manual I don't know? |

Thanks Sludge for your information, which is quite correct. This topic is about VSK3 though. The info about the issue in VSK 5 is in the topic here: http://www.virtualskipper-lejeu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10315#10315
I have made the VSK5 topic sticky, to help members find it in the future. _________________ Sandy

I configured the map with the editor for AI, when I play in solo, I have AI, when I play in Multiplyer on a local network with friends, I don't Have AI opponents.
What I need to do to have opponent AI on local Network (not Internet mode) in multiplayer mode.
Thanks for your help |
